Bad Company 2 PC Beta Delayed
No, I am not kidding. I know you don't want to hear this, but the Bad Company 2 PC Beta got delayed. (I know this might be old news to some)
quote Bit-tech.net's Joe Martin:
Developer DICE has officially delayed the beta of the PC version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 until next year at the earliest, according to a post on the official site.
On the plus side, DICE's Gordon Van Dyke has claimed that the new beta build will have improved quality, stablity and features.
"With the huge success of the PS3 Beta we decided to drastically increase the PC Beta's capacity to insure as many people as possible could participate," Van Dyke wrote.
"Unfortunately this meant we had to delay the Beta to very early next year giving us more planning time to make it happen and implement more optimizations."
DICE has also been spent a lot of time talking about how the PC game will be an improvement over the console versions, with play count boosted from 24 to 32, advanced DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 support and Nvidia 3D Vision support. There'll also be dedicated servers and extra optimisations for squad play, plus "professional grade" servers for clans to hire out.
"Everyone gets non-stop action with no connection penalties based on some other player's internet," wrote Van Dyke.
So I guess we PC gamers will have to wait a little longer. But hey! If we get a better beta, then the wait will be worth it.

Slow updates…
Some of you already have noticed that the last few days, updates have been rather slow. The reason for this is, that I have a serious (swine?) flu..
I've been lying in bed all day so far and every now and then I grab my notebook to see if I can make a quick post onto the website.. But since I don't want to rush things over, it actually takes a while before something is good enough to publish
I hope I get well soon, so that I can catch up with the things I discovered the last few days regarding MW2.
Kind regards,
KingOfTehInternets.
Is IW considering forced local search ?
This recent tweet of FourZeroTwo at Twitter sounds rather interesting.
Numbers don’t lie: Statistics after 2 weeks
It has been exactly 2 weeks since the release of Modern Warfare 2 now and on xfire, MW2 has once again been overtaken by MW1:
Xfire users playing MW1 per day: 82,647 (Stats retrieved on 24 Nov. 2009, 23:00 GMT+1)
Source of stats: http://www.xfire.com/games/cod4/Call_of_Duty_4_Modern_Warfare/
Xfire users playing MW2 per day: 62,701 (Stats retrieved on 24 Nov. 2009, 23:00 GMT+1)
Source of stats: http://www.xfire.com/games/codmw2/Call_of_Duty_Modern_Warfare_2/
Even if we look at the (more accurate ?) Steam data for MW2, the statistics are still pathetic:
96,701 playing COD – MW2 Multiplayer (Stats retrieved on 24 Nov. 2009, 23:00 GMT+1).
Source of stats: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
As opposed to 82,647+ MW1 players per day (that exact number includes only those who are on xfire), 2 years after release.
Still think you'll be buying a golden shitter with all the DLC money you were supposed to rake in, Bobby?
Before the first DLC hits the web, sorry, I mean online stores, MW2 will be a ghost town.
Sales might pick up over Christmas, but as unplayable as this game is right now for a large part of the users, it will hardly have any effect on the long-term CD sales and DLC sales.
Good job, you've just lost 15%+ of your potential sales. Investors will be delighted.

IW MW2 PC Forums Slowdown
It appears that the Infinity Ward Modern Warfare 2 forums are losing steam.
Has the PC Community given up on Infinity Ward listening to and acting upon its concerns?
GCHQ Xbox Live Advert
First ever use of Xbox Live dashboard 'slot' advertising for employer marketing in the UK. This full length, full screen HD movie promotes GCHQ's career offering to the British gaming community and reinforces messages about how their work is now heavily focused on protecting Britain's digital space. The campaign was launched on 20th November 2009 and was supported by a 'Branded Destination Experience' within the Xbox menu system plus in-game video adverts.
Australian Modern Warfare 2 rating under fire
South Australian Attorney-General Michael Atkinson is to appeal the 15+ age rating given to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 by the Australian OFLC (Office of Film and Literature Classification).
One of the most outspoken critics of video games in Australia, Atkinson has consistently blocked moves to institute an 18+ mature age rating. This has meant that 15+ is the highest rating that can be given, with games that exceed its guidelines either being banned or censored.
Although Modern Warfare 2 was given a 15+ rating Atkinson commented on radio show National Interest (reported by newspaper The Age), that, "The Classification Board in Australia does everything to try to get games in under the radar, and film, generally.”
Replying to consumer website GameSpot AU's reporting of the story, Atkinson commented: "I worry about any game that encourages gamers to perpetrate extreme violence and cruelty on screen, but this game allows players to be virtual terrorists and gain points by massacring civilians. Expecting game designers to be responsible by not glorifying terrorism will always lead to disappointment."
If Atkinson's appeal is successful Modern Warfare 2 could effectively be banned from sale in Australia, until Activision can submit a censored version of the game - something the publisher has already done for the title's release in Russia.
Appeals can be mounted for the opposite effect, but only last month the unedited version of Left 4 Dead 2 was refused a 15+ certificate and EA were forced to release a specially edited version of the game in Australia.

Activision didn’t understand the joke
Evil publisher Activision may know how to make vast sums of money, but it doesn't seem to know when someone's yanking its chain. Edgy Gamer wrote a rather amusing email to Activision, talking about a "glitch" in Modern Warfare 2's "No Russian" level where the enemy characters are rendered without guns and won't fight back. Rather than understand the joke, Activision took it seriously!
"Every time I get up to Act 1, Mission 4, the game appears to load fine at first, but then when I encounter the enemies, I discover that nearly of them are rendered without weapons," write the cheeky pranksters. "They aren't even programmed to melee me either. There are a small number of baddies with guns, but it's not until the end of the mission that most of them have weapons."
Activision took the bait, and actually requested more information on this supposed glitch:
This does not appear to be a known issue with the game. Does this occur for you when playing on a different Xbox 360 as well? Make sure that your Xbox 360 console is in a well ventilated area to prevent overheating.
Beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that I think I might cry.
Thanks again for submitting this, Alberto Soares !
