Call of Duty: Black Ops To Support Dedicated Servers
Lower the pitchforks and put out those torches, PC shooter fans. Treyarch has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops will in fact include dedicated servers for online play.
"I think dedicated servers are excellent,” Treyarch head Mark Lamia recently told PC Zone magazine (via CVG). “I don't see any reason not to see [use?] them unless...well, I just don't see any reason not to."
And while Infinity Ward caught heat for forgoing dedicated server support for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in favour of the multiplayer system found in the console versions, Lamia says both systems have value.
“We're working very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers and also participate in the communal experience the console players get to have, given they're all on first-party servers."
So what say you, PC gamers? Dedicated servers for Black Ops sound alright with you?

Call of Duty 7 to get dedicated servers – report
According reportedly leaked information from 'undisclosed Activisions sources', the PC version of Call Of Duty 7 will be getting dedicated servers.
The lack of dedicated servers in last year's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 upset a small army of PC gamers.
According to Tek9's source, 'Call of Duty 7: Black Ops' will also feature the popular zombie mode from predecessor CoD: World At War, in which players get to shoot down hordes of the undead.
The site adds: 'Last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers."
Again, we'll check in with Activision to see what the publisher says...

Want to know how long you spent in the lobby ?
For those of you with Xfire and MW2 and are interested how much time you spent in the lobby, searching for a game session, this might be of interest:
I'm not certain but the time played in the barracks seems to be the time actually in a game, and not in the lobby.
Xfire records how long you had the game open, so assuming you haven't played a lot of private matches or don't idle in the main menu for too long you can see how long you've played cod that you are trying to find matches.
Results:
On average 50 hours spent in lobby, as reported by several users via our forums.

Update on the Teknogods Dedicated Server patch
The Teknogods Dedicated Server patch is coming along nicely ! The latest news regarding their MW2 Dedicated Server patch says:
Our TODO-list is pretty short now! Currently we’re working on:
- Master server code (for server list)
- No-render mode for dedicated server
- LAN host info socket
- Rendering server browser window as overlay (it’s a separate window at the moment)

Neat little detail in the screenshot is 'release might be sooner than you think'
Looking forward to the release, Smurfette ! As soon as it's released, I'll have a look what the possibilities are of getting an own ModernWarfail2 Dedicated Server online. A friend of mine is on a fiber connection (30Mbit Down/Up) so that should give some nice results
